Finals night out of sight…
The cry goes out for more!
Wow! What a way to end Songwriters’ mic’05! Another capacity crowd, and with our seven finalists at their best, the performances were enough to leave everyone wanting more, more, more! Contest sponsors, audience members and contestants alike all agreed this year's event was the best ever. Jasmine Whenham amazed those present with a dazzling performance, edging out Samantha Bisset and Sandra Clemons to lay claim to the Grand Prize package. Well done Jasmine, and well deserved! All finalist shared in an outstanding array of prizes, and another night of premier industry networking opportunities. Our panel of judges included Stephen Williams of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, joined by Brian Cymbaluk of AXE Music, Tom Coxworth of CKUA Radio, and Josh Marantz of the Ironwood Stage and Grill. The presence of contest sponsors Rob Oswin of Worldwide OCR, Noel Snow of Snow Sound Studio, Rick Mizzoni of Music Centre Canada, and Bob Macgillivray of Radio 27.com., added to the festive nature of the evening. Starting with performances by contest organizers and hosts Phyllis Wheaton and Jim Munro, contestants' names were randomly drawn to decide the order of appearance. As each performer took to the stage, the buzz in the venue increased, as all knew they were witnessing something truly special. Indeed, with 70 different contestants over six weeks, and almost a thousand people attending this year's event, the Songwriters’ Mic’ series continues to set a new standard for original music in and around Calgary.
