Week Two, Out of the Blue...
Long Shot Wins the Lottery!!
In a strange turn of events befitting Hallowe'en, contestant Ray Rutherford, who failed to advance in week one, came out in week two and won twice. First, Ray won the lottery draw and the only performance spot not filled by pre-registration. Then, with an inspired performance, he wowed the judges and the audience to win a spot in the finals. Ray, originally from England, joined a cast of performers who showcased their original music for almost three hours. The enthusiastic audience response for each participant spoke volumes of the talent that continues to assemble each contest night. This week, our esteemed panel of judges included, singer/songwriter John Wort Hannam, Tom Coxworth of CKUA Radio, and Jan Patterson-Levi of the Canadian Country Music News. The variety of music, and quality of performances continues to make the judges decision a tough one, with the final scores each week being oh so close. Pre-registration continues at a brisk pace, to avoid disappointment, keep an eye on the schedule page at www.calgarysongwriter.com and register as soon as you can. And don’t forget, in the event of a registrant failing to appear, a lottery of all interested songwriters present will be held. Who knows, lightning may strike twice…just ask Ray!
