Ohama Captures His 99th Video of Local Musicians

Calgary artist Tona Ohama has published his ninety-ninth video of local singers/songwriters. While at a venue or on the street, if the moment is right, Tona captures a song performed live by a Calgary musician. Then, unedited, it goes onto his Youtube website.

Quoted from the site, about his latest pursuit with a camera, Ohama writes, "Nearly every video that appears on this channel was shot live by me in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
My primary interest is the single-shot, natural-light, no-edit, webcam style and I try to capture a moment that is as real as possible. I love the intimacy and immediacy of the one camera shoot."

From his March 16 news release...
"I support Calgary Musicians and Artists!

This is my 99th YouTube Video, a young girl named Ashley I just met randomly about an hour ago...

Thanks to all the Calgary musicians for participating and for all the great feedback.

I wonder who will be video #100?....Tona"

So with quiet intent, he will venture street-level, looking for the next focus in his lens. Gathering art with art. And perhaps some of the most memorable musical moments to be remembered in Calgary's ever-expanding scene.

Tona Walt Ohama made impressions with his avant-garde musicianry on Much Music, then called New Music, in the 1980's.
In 2006, he released the Ohama "Box Set", a ten disc compilation of his total works, including videos and photographs from the era.

Such is the Ohama style, that a limited number of box sets contained an actual piece of the equipment he used in his music career. Yes, everything was cut into small pieces to be included in the numbered sets.
