Okotok's performer DONNA KAY has been awarded "Best Music Video" at the 2007 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards held in Toronto on November 30.
From her latest release "The Journey", the video for "Round, Round, Round", directed by Christopher Markowsky, shared CAMA nominations with Ontario's Eye Of Charm - "Farewell Machine" and Albertan, Shane Yellowbird - "Pick up Truck".
The video was shot at the Onion Lake Pow Wow just north of Lloydminster, Alberta. There were an estimated 10 thousand people in attendance and 900 dancers. In the video, the Drummers (Little Island Cree) and Dancers are all from Donna's home Little Island Lake, Saskatchewan, making it very special for her.
"The Onion Lake Pow Wow committee were so gracious. They had a fire truck standing by while we shot the night bonfire, as it was a hot, dry July night and we were in a field of tall grass. Behind the camera so many people lent a helping hand. There was this flow of energy and talent from every direction. It was a very positive and humbling experience."
The album, produced by Peter Bacsalmasi, also received a CAMA in 2006 for "Best Producer/Engineer"
See Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards for an official winners list.
