JOELLE
*Tell us a story behind one of your songs*.

One of the songs off my new CD "Pillar of Stone" is called "All 4 Me". It is very close to me because it talks about a certain group of people that I was associated with. These people did not treat me well and tried to bring me down.
It was a very tough time but I was not about to let that continue and I basically said ,"this time its all for me and I'm gonna look out for me"!

*What do you listen to when you are at home?*

I really love most types of music. They all bring some inspiration to me, but I would say that over all I am big top 40 girl and I love commercial music with a great hook!
*Who or what has influenced your writing significantly?*

There is a good handful of writers that I just love, but there is three songwriters that really stand out to me and inspire me.
These three writers being,Shania twain, George Michael's and Mariah Carey are very different writers. They are all extremely creative and innovative, in my opinion, with the way they write. They all have a signature to their writing , that you know is them.
Just to explain two examples, Shania writes as if she was talking to you in a conversation. She will use everyday words that are the vocabulary that we use and we can all relate to.
George, lets you know what is going on in his mind and in his world but not in a way that is always so obvious. Some of the word choices and sentence structure that he uses is very creative. He is very genuine too.

*What highlight in your songwriting/performing could you share with us?*

Well to date, it has to be writing and co-writing in Nashville and L.A for this CD. I was fortunate enough to co-write with some very talented writers in both those places and it really gave me a whole other perspective on creating a song.
I think it is important to write alone so you can strengthen as a writer but as well as co-write. Both ways just bring a difference to the table.

*What have you learned that you could pass on about songwriting/performing experience?
I am very much still learning about myself as a performer and songwriter. I have such a long way to go with both but the only way to get better and to create your story and gain confidence is to keep working at it and pushing yourself and even sometimes forcing yourself to do things that you fear.
The person who has the most interest in your project is you, so you have to get out there a take classes or network or market yourself.

*Any tips or advice you could give to songwriters?*

It is important to write alone but as well as co-write. I would try and get well rounded experience with both of those but with co-writing make sure you know your royalties and what permission everyone has when it comes time to perform and sell the songs.

*What plans or goals do you have for the next year?*

First to set a release date for the CD.
I hope to get out there and book shows and just have fun with people.
I have so many plans and goals ahead but I have to take one day at a time and work hard!

*Where can we buy your CD?*
